Perp DEX Fee Index

All-in trading costs on Aster, Hyperliquid, dYdX and GMX, computed from each venue's own published rates.

Rates read from primary documentation on . Base volume tier throughout.

Every perp DEX publishes a maker/taker rate card. None of them publishes what a position costs, which is a different number, because a position has two sides. You pay to get in and you pay again to get out, and the rate card only ever quotes one of those. Comparing four venues therefore means reading four rate cards and doing the arithmetic yourself.

That arithmetic is what this page is. The rates are theirs and are linked back to source; the round-trip figures are ours.

Round-trip cost by trade size

One entry fill and one exit fill, both crossing the spread, at the base volume tier with no token discount applied. Percentages are of notional.

VenueMakerTakerRound trip$1,000$10,000$100,000
Aster0%0.04%0.080%$0.80$8.00$80.00
GMX V2n/a0.04% to 0.06%0.080% to 0.120%$0.80 to $1.20$8.00 to $12.00$80.00 to $120.00
Hyperliquid0.015%0.045%0.090%$0.90$9.00$90.00
dYdX0.02%0.05%0.100%$1.00$10.00$100.00

GMX shows a range rather than a figure because it has no order book. Its position fee is 0.04% when a trade narrows the gap between long and short open interest and 0.06% when it widens that gap, charged on the way in and again on the way out, so which end of the range applies depends on the state of the pool rather than on the order type. It is also the venue with the largest excluded cost: a borrowing fee accrues for as long as the position stays open, and on a position held for days it can dwarf everything in this table.

With each venue's own token discount

Same round trip, with the best fee reduction each venue documents for holding or paying in its own token, at the entry tier.

Base volume tier on every venue, since that is where most traders actually sit. Fee components each venue charges separately are excluded, and on GMX in particular the borrowing fee can exceed everything shown here. Read the exclusions below before quoting any of these figures.

Methodology

Every rate was read off the venue's own documentation on , at the base volume tier, and each row links the page it came from. Where a venue could not be verified from its own published docs it would be left out rather than estimated, which is why this index covers four venues and not more.

Round trip means one entry fill plus one exit fill. The maker column is the resting side and the taker column crosses the spread; the headline table assumes you cross on both sides, because that is what happens when a position is opened and closed at market. Percentages are of notional, so leverage does not change them: a $10,000 position costs the same in fees whether it is funded with $1,000 at 10x or $10,000 at 1x.

What is excluded, in every figure above: funding payments, slippage and price impact, and gas or network execution fees. These are real costs and on some venues they are the larger ones. Per-venue notes:

  • AsterFunding, slippage and gas. USD1-margined perps are cheaper again at 0.005% taker; stock perps 0.009%.
  • HyperliquidFunding, slippage and gas. Rates fall on 14-day volume tiers from $5M up.
  • dYdXFunding, slippage and gas. Rates fall on 30-day volume tiers from $1M up.
  • GMX V2Funding, price impact on close, the network execution fee, and the borrowing fee that accrues for as long as the position is open. On GMX the borrowing fee is often the larger cost.

Fee schedules change, and this one names competitors, so treat the date above as part of the data. If you are sizing a real position, confirm the live rate on the venue you are trading before you act on any number here.

This page reports costs and does not rank venues or recommend one. Fees are one input among several, and the cheapest rate card is not the same thing as the best venue for a given trade. Nothing here is financial advice.

For what these numbers mean on Aster specifically, including the USD1-margined and stock-perp rates that sit below the headline figure and how the two discounts stack, see Aster fees explained. The wider feature comparison lives in Aster vs Hyperliquid, and fees and savings indexes every cost guide on this site.
